WEEKEND / EXTENDED TRIPS:
You should aim to have your pack weigh no more than 20% of your body weight when packed.
ESSENTIAL CLOTHING:
Boots, light footwear e.g. running shoes to wear in camp, gaiters or puttees, wool socks (2-3 pairs), shorts, shirt, underwear, wool singlet, wool jersey, wool long-johns, wool hat or balaclava, wool gloves or mittens, waterproof rain coat, over-trousers, waterproof over-mittens, sunhat, sunglasses (plus case and spec-band). Ensure that a change of clothes is in a plastic bag so that you have dry clothes for the evening.
EQUIPMENT:
Pack (plus liner and cover), sleeping bag, sleeping mat, map, compass, fire lighting equipment, torch (plus spare bulb and batteries), food, bowl or plate, plastic mug, spoon, knife (pocket or sheath), personal first aid kit, survival bag (plus pack liner) cord (2-3 m), whistle, paper and pencil, towel (small), toiletries, insect repellent, toilet paper, sunscreen, water bottle, spare bootlaces, tent or fly, cooker and fuel.
IN THE BUS: Change of clothes and footwear for the trip home, plastic bags for wet clothing and dirty boots. Remember to bring your sleeping bag or a blanket for sleeping on the bus.
